Wiki Loves Folklore 2026 in Serbia

Wiki Loves Folklore is an international photographic competition to enjoy and celebrate the cultural diversity from around the World through Wikimedia projects (mainly Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons). Everybody can participate. Wiki loves Folklore in Serbia is organized by the community in Serbia in collaboration with other partners in Serbia.

In Serbia, we are calling on people to dive into their photo archives or visit local sites with connections of Serbian culture, folklore or storytelling and upload them to win!

The basic aim of the competition is to collect photos of human cultural diversity to illustrate articles in the worldwide free encyclopedia Wikipedia and other Wikimedia Foundation projects. The photos provided must match the theme, including, but not limited to festivals, material culture, dances, cuisine, clothing or daily life routine emphasizing on folk culture of Serbia. This media contest celebrates the rich tapestry of folk culture from around the world, featuring categories that include (but are not limited to) folk festivals, dances, music, activities, games, cuisine, clothing, and a wide variety of traditional expressions. These may encompass ballads, folktales, fairy tales, legends, seasonal celebrations, calendar customs, folk arts, folk religion, and mythology. Competition rules

There are a few rules for photos to participate in Serbia contest.

  1. Contributors uploading media must possess the copyrights to the submitted content.
  2. Photos should be submitted between the designated period of 1st February to 31st March 2026. While historical photographs are accepted (provided the uploader holds the copyright), they must be uploaded within the contest timeframe.
  3. All entries must be licensed under a free copyright license or released into the public domain. The recommended license is Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0), as facilitated by the upload wizard.
  4. Each eligible image must be identified by tagging it with {{Wiki Loves Folklore 2026}}. This tag is automatically applied when using the dedicated blue button with the special upload link on the main contest page. If you are uploading media from a third party applications or from main upload wizard kindly add {{Wiki Loves Folklore 2026}} to the media.
  5. Eligible submissions include media (images, audios and videos) associated with any of the listed categories on project page.
  6. Participants are required to enable email communication on Wikimedia Commons to facilitate contact in case their image is selected for a prize.

Copyright notes

Please, keep in mind very important rules, before you upload any photo. All media have to be you own work. All photos and videos will be checked and compared for any match with photos available all around the web. If some photo isn't your own work, it will be permanently deleted from Commons.

Judging and Prizes

Through the month of May 2026, a jury from Serbia will go through and judge all photos, videos and audio files to determine the wunners. The following criteria are used (in no particular order): Composition; Composition; Originality; Usefulness. The top-ten medias will all receive a certificate. Prizes: in all categories.
